On my way back to Australia from the
UK recently, I stopped off in Abu Dhabi in the
United Arab Emirates, took a bus across to Dubai and
explored the surrounding area. Dubai can
definitely be described as "the city that is under
construction". There is a monumental amount of
building work happening which I imagine includes
several monuments. It seems crazy the way they
are coming up with a picture of beautiful resort
islands, then proceeding to build the islands and
then the resorts. It is an incredible city and
there are several people there who are not short of
a few dollars, however to me it is a place that
lacks character and soul, the type you find in an
old English or American City, however maybe they
will find a way to build that though like everything
else.
One exciting adventure I embarked on
whilst in Dubai was a 4x4 Desert Safari, this was
great - a group of us got in a truck with a crazy
driver who took us racing over the dunes, into the
night and up to the border of Oman. In the
evening we then had a BBQ out in the desert.
This was not disappointing and I definitely got to
see my fair share of desert. Click on the
photo above to enjoy the photos.
