Personal Profile 2010

I was born in Truro, Cornwall, UK and lived in St Ives until the age of 18.  I studied firstly at the Duchy Grammar School until GCSE level and completed my 6th form education at Truro College.  In addition to my academic studies I joined the St Ives Pilot Gig Club (traditional Cornish rowing boats) and enjoyed racing, keeping fit and walking and competing in 2 Ten Tors Expeditions on Dartmoor. I also undertook a fieldwork project in Egypt as well as a work placement in a Computer Bureau in Germany.

After college I went on to University in Cardiff to Study Computer Science.  I excelled in Internet topics and Databases, completing projects for local companies "St Davids Hotel", and "JJ Castings Heat Treatments", for which I won an award from "Cymru Prosper Wales" and "Shell UK" for "The most Outstanding Contribution to a Company"  In University I was a founder member of the Computer Science Society and was elected to the executive committee of the Students Union. I also enjoyed rowing for the University Novice Men's Crew.

After University, I spent a year abroad participating in voluntary work for Raleigh International in Outer Mongolia.  In Mongolia, I was involved in the building of a medical clinic which was built in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme.  This is now being used and is of immense benefit to the local community.

After my year abroad, I have gained a wealth of technical experience.  I spent over 3 years working for a financial software house, supporting products, performing installations at client sites, training and consulting on the financial products offered.

In 2004 I moved to New Zealand to visit family, enjoy the outdoor life and also continue my IT career.  I began employment with IBM, initially working as a Deskside Support Engineer, providing support for members of a bank as well as traders.  During my first year, I gained much experience, becoming Microsoft Certified, as well as gaining a good grounding knowledge in Networking.  In 2006 I was promoted to the role of a Systems Engineer and worked on a high profile IBM project to build a new network for the New Zealand Government.  In 2007 I moved to Sydney Australia with my girlfriend Emily and I began work at IBM as a Server Specialist managing the server network for a large Australian bank.  I am now progressing within the position and am looking at moving into IT Architecture or Project Management within the next couple of years.

I am ambitious and am constantly seeking excitement through both work and social life, and am always looking for new opportunities. My future goal is to live and work in different countries, continually progressing my technical knowledge and experience. People say to me, do you think you will stay in Australia?, and I always say, I will just see what comes up.
I constantly welcome feedback and information on opportunities.  Please feel free to send me an email.
